As we enter the festive season and 2024 draws to a close, it’s important to recognise that for many, this time of year brings joy and celebration. But for others, the holidays can bring unique challenges. The pressures of work, personal commitments, and the emotional weight of the season can impact individual and team wellbeing in various ways.

We're committed to supporting everyone during this busy and sometimes overwhelming time. Whether you're managing stress at work, trying to balance family expectations, or simply feeling the weight of the season, it's essential to remember that you're not alone. And if you are a workplace mental health advocate or a Cari trained Wellbeing 1st Responder, we recognise you are in a unique position to support your workplace.

Here's our top tips to support your and your team's wellbeing this season:

1. Reach out and connect with your colleagues
A simple message or phone call to check in can make all the difference. If you notice someone in your circle who might be struggling, a kind word or listening ear can go a long way. Whether it's a friend, family member, or colleague, reaching out can help them feel seen and supported. Encourage get-togethers to enhance connection if you can.

2. Encourage breaks and self-care
The festive season can often feel rushed, with project deadlines and end of year planning. But it's crucial to make time for yourself. Encourage regular breaks, moments of relaxation, and activities that reduce stress. Taking time to unwind can help prevent burnout and make the holidays more enjoyable.

3. Share helpful resources
It's important to be aware of the resources available to you, both in and outside of work. The BENDs App, for example, provides a wide range of wellbeing suggestions and exercises, right at your fingertips. If you haven't already, you can download the app from the Apple or Google app stores and access useful tools to manage stress and support your mental health.

4. Practice inclusivity and respect
The holidays mean different things to different people. Being mindful of diverse traditions and practices is key to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment. Whether it's adjusting your approach to holiday celebrations or respecting others' boundaries, inclusivity is a powerful way to make sure everyone feels supported.

5. Lead with empathy and kindness
This festive season, let's all make a conscious effort to show empathy and care. A little kindness can go a long way in creating a connected and supportive atmosphere. Whether it's offering help, listening attentively, or simply being there for others, small acts of compassion can make a big impact.

To help spread these messages and create a more supportive environment, we've designed a festive wellbeing poster, available for download. It's a simple way to remind yourself and those around you of the importance of looking after mental health during the holidays. Share it with your teams, friends, and loved ones to help promote a positive and caring festive atmosphere.

The holidays may come with challenges, but by prioritising workplace wellbeing, supporting each other, and practicing kindness, we can make this season a time of connection, care, and support for everyone, ensuring the workplace is a supportive environment for all.
