Create an upward spiral of joy at work through peer support using neuroscience techniques.
In today’s high-pressure work environments, cultivating supportive and connected communities is essential for lasting wellbeing. At the heart of our approach lies the neuroscience of human connection, expressed through a peer support framework we call the “upward spiral of joy.” Using Cari, our neuroscience-backed platform, and the Wellbeing Advocate program (Wellbeing First Responders, or W1Rs), we foster sustainable, positive impacts on mental health and happiness for individuals and teams.
The power of positive psychology in Cari
Cari is founded on positive psychology – a strengths-based approach that emphasizes what’s working well within each individual rather than focusing on deficits. By tailoring support to an individual’s current state of wellbeing, Cari offers targeted, uplifting resources that feel meaningful in the moment.
As employees engage with Cari, they receive actionable feedback that highlights their strengths, which they can apply immediately. This positive feedback loop not only uplifts users but also reinforces and sustains gains in mental wellbeing. Through Cari, employees experience a continual sense of encouragement, making positive mental health gains more sustainable.

“By prioritising the science of connection and positive psychology, we’re helping to create workplaces that thrive on collaboration and happiness – a true upward spiral of joy!”
Maria Paviour, Founder, Wellbeing with Cari
Building connections through neuroscience
Our Wellbeing Advocates bring the power of neuroscience into the peer support process. Trained to lead supportive, empathy-based conversations, W1Rs use insights into how our brains are wired to connect, creating meaningful interactions that enhance mutual care and resilience.
When W1Rs engage with their peers, both parties experience an increase in wellbeing, benefiting from a shared boost in motivation and mood. The brain’s reward circuitry, activated by helping others, releases dopamine, reinforcing a desire to continue supporting others. Over time, this cycle strengthens community bonds and inspires a ripple effect that builds happier, healthier teams.
Our approach vs. traditional mental health programs
Traditional mental health programs, like Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), take a more clinical approach, often focused on crisis management or preventing severe conditions. While these approaches are essential, they focus on mental “unhealth” from a preventative angle, which is often medicalised.
Cari and the W1R program, in contrast, focus on enhancing everyday wellbeing through proactive, positive psychology principles. By addressing mental health at a foundational level and fostering connection, our approach helps individuals not only cope but thrive. This preventive, strengths-based approach, rooted in neuroscience, builds emotional resilience and promotes a culture of joy and mutual support.
The joyful future of workplace wellbeing
With our neuroscience-based tools, we are building a workplace culture centred on joy, connection, and mutual empowerment. Each positive interaction strengthens the upward spiral of joy, fostering an environment where employees feel valued, supported, and inspired to contribute their best.
